Let's Make a Terrarium!

Have fun creating an at-home terrarium with your child!
Activity Instructions
Pour the soil into the jar.
Pour the water into the jar
Prepare the seeds by gently rubbing them with the sandpaper to help with water absorption.
Drop the seeds into the jar.
Add small toys or figurines to your terrarium to create a little rainforest!
Place your terrarium in a sunny location.
When you see condensation on the sides of the jar, you can explain that because your plant is in the jar, the water stays mostly inside the jar!
When the plant needs more water, give your child a spray bottle to help give the plant a drink!
Supplies Needed
A large, clear jar
Flower, vegatable, or herb seeds
1/2 cup potting soil
1/4 cup water
Sandpaper
Small toy figurines that can fit inside the jar
Spray bottle filled with water
I Wonder...
I wonder statements are a great way to introduce concepts to children, stimulate their curiosity while modeling the pleasure of learning, and embrace ideas in a fun and unpressured way!
- I wonder if we will need to add water?
I wonder how long it will take for our seed to sprout?
I wonder what our plant will look like?
