Send-a-hug!

Spread the love by creating a hug to send in the mail or share with someone you’re thinking of via email, FaceTime or Zoom!

Invite your child to paint their hands with a paint brush. I wonder how the paint feels on your hand...warm, cold, wet, squishy, tickley etc. When you’re done exploring the paint on your hands stamp them on paper and let them dry. No paint in the house, it would also be fun to trace your hands counting your fingers as you go!

When dry cut them out.

Next measure your preschoolers arm span with a tape measure from finger tip to finger tip counting the numbers as you go! Remember to write that number down:) I wonder if your arm span is the same measurement as your height from head to toe. Invite your preschooler to take a guess.

Now you’re ready to cut the length of your ribbon the same length as the measurement you wrote down.

To create the heart for the center of your hug fold a piece of paper in half and draw half of a heart along the folded edge. Cut out and unfold to reveal a heart. Invite your preschooler to decorate the heart and handprints and add a special message. When complete tape the heart in the middle and a hand to each end of the ribbon.

You’re hug is now ready to share with someone you’ve been thinking of! Fold it carefully and place in an envelope and send your hug through the mail.

No stamps? You could also share your hug on camera during FaceTime or Zoom or take a picture and send via email. I wonder what other ways you can share a hug without seeing someone?

You can also make a hug outside by using sidewalk chalk to trace your preschooler with arms stretched out. Take a picture and send a hug through email!

I wonder...

I wonder statements are a great way to introduce concepts to children, stimulate their curiosity while modeling the pleasure of learning, and embrace ideas in a fun and unpressured way!
